OCU dismantles Wayland Baptist

Stars collect 10th consecutive victory

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Oklahoma City University ran its winning streak to 10 with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-13 win over Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Saturday at the Hutcherson Center.
Stefani Nell, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., produced 14 kills, nine digs and two blocks for the Stars. OCU (15-5, 10-1 Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball) last lost Sept. 15 to John Brown (Ark.) in Siloam Springs, Ark.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia, posted 11 kills, three digs and three blocks, and Sanja Vojnovic, a senior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, piled up 32 assists, 15 digs, three kills and three blocks for the Stars.
Dani Chase, a senior from Yukon, Okla., supplied OCU with 16 digs and seven assists, while Holly Randall, a senior from Edmond, Okla., delivered eight kills and a season-best seven blocks. Lacy Beeler, a freshman from Jenks, Okla., added six kills and three blocks, and Jazmyn Boyd-Clark, a junior from Troutdale, Ore., picked up four kills and three blocks for the Stars.
OCU pulled away from a second-set 11-11 tie with five points in a row. Randall knocked down a kill and combined with Beeler on a block to key the Stars' surge.
The Stars built 6-0 and 9-1 advantages in the third set. Bjelobrk nailed three kills and teamed with Clark on a block, while Nell had two kills and an ace to spearhead OCU.
Oklahoma City faces Southwestern Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Bethany, Okla.
