Stars subdues Southwestern Assemblies of God

14th-ranked OCU stays unbeaten within conference play

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University fought off Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 25-14, 25-23, 25-22 on Friday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Fia Faa'agi, a sophomore from Murrieta, Calif., pocketed 10 kills, six digs and three blocks for the Stars. OCU, ranked 14th in NAIA volleyball, picked up its eight win in a row to go to 16-3, 7-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Sanja Vojnovic, a junior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, accumulated 23 assists, five digs and three kills, while Marijana Bjelobrk, a freshman from Belgrade, Serbia, picked up six kills, nine digs, three blocks and two aces for Oklahoma City.
Dani Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., produced 16 digs, and Shekinah Clarke, a sophomore from Waianae, Hawaii, contributed five kills, seven digs and two aces for the Stars. Holly Randall, a junior from Edmond, Okla., pitched in five kills and two blocks, while Caitlin Chamness, a junior from Littleton, Colo., added three aces and three blocks.
In the first set, OCU built a 21-12 advantage with five consecutive points. Faa'agi capped the 5-0 run with a kill, and Randall smacked a kill. Clarke served up an ace. Bjelobrk and Chamness sealed the set by combining on a block.
The Stars held off Southwestern Assemblies in the second set after building a 14-5 advantage. Southwestern Assemblies of God cut its deficit to 23-21 before Faa'agi nailed a kill to give OCU set point. SAGU made it 24-23 before Faa'agi closed out the set with a kill.
In the third set, Randall smacked a kill to break a 21-21 tie. Vojnovic knocked down a kill to make OCU the victor.
The Stars take on Texas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
