OCU tops Texas Wesleyan

Faa'agi leads Stars with 12 kills

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University kept its conference record perfect with a 25-22, 26-24, 25-23 victory over Texas Wesleyan on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Fia Faa'agi, a sophomore from Murrieta, Calif., topped the Stars with 12 kills. Oklahoma City, ranked 14th in NAIA volleyball, improved to 17-3, 8-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU ran its win streak to nine consecutive matches overall and 12 in a row within league play. Texas Wesleyan (18-3, 5-3 SAC) dealt OCU its last SAC setback Oct. 30, 2015 in Fort Worth, Texas. The Stars halted Texas Wesleyan's winning streak at six.
Manon Soraru, a junior from Mulhouse, France, posted 10 kills and four digs, and Sanja Vojnovic, a junior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, tallied 35 assists and nine digs for the Stars.
Stefani Nell, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., provided OCU with six kills and 15 digs, while Shekinah Clarke, a sophomore from Waianae, Hawaii, supplied 11 digs and two aces. Dani Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., notched 11 digs, and Marijana Bjelobrk, a freshman from Belgrade, Serbia, had six kills, seven digs and two blocks for the Stars. Holly Randall, a junior from Edmond, Okla., hammered six kills.
In the second set, OCU overcame a 24-22 deficit. Nell nailed a kill, then Soraru added a pair of kills. Bjelobrk came up with a solo block to secure the set and cap a 4-0 OCU run.
In the third set, the Stars erased 19-15 and 23-21 holes. Soraru's kill touched off four consecutive OCU points to close out the match.
The Stars square off with John Brown (Ark.) at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Siloam Springs, Ark.
