OCU knocks off Southwestern Christian

Stars run winning streak to seven matches

BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma City University secured a 25-23, 28-26, 25-23 win over Southwestern Christian on Wednesday at Pickens-Springer Gymnasium.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a freshman from Belgrade, Serbia, supplied the Stars with 14 kills and four digs. OCU, ranked 14th in NAIA volleyball, moved to 15-3, 6-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Stars' Stefani Nell, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., turned in 10 kills and seven digs, and Sanja Vojnovic, a junior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, tallied 39 assists, six kills and two aces.
Dani Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., picked up 13 digs, while Fia Faa'agi, a sophomore from Murrieta, Calif., nailed seven kills for OCU. Shekinah Clarke, a sophomore from Waianae, Hawaii, posted 11 digs and three kills, and Holly Randall, a junior from Edmond, Okla., socked six kills for the Stars.
OCU overcame a 17-13 deficit to snag the first set. The Stars strung together four points in a row as Vojnovic had a kill and Chase served up an ace. Nell came up with two kills, while Bjelobrk notched a kill as the Stars took the lead 24-22. Randall's kill put away the set.
In the second set, the Stars had three set points before taking the set. Nell put OCU up 26-25 with her kill, then Bjelobrk's kill gave the Stars a 27-26 edge.
OCU erased 8-4 and 21-19 holes in the third set to finish the victory. Bjelobrk and Vojnovic crushed kills to put the Stars ahead 22-21. Faa'agi smacked a kill to complete the match.
Oklahoma City returns to action 7 p.m. Sept. 30 vs. Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at Abe Lemons Arena.
