Stars roll to win over Mid-America Christian

OCU moves up to 14th in NAIA top 25

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University trounced Mid-America Christian 25-20, 25-13, 25-17 on Tuesday at the Gaulke Activity Center.
Manon Soraru, a junior from Mulhouse, France, paced the Stars with 15 kills and two blocks. OCU (14-3, 5-0 Sooner Athletic Conference) climbed to 14th in the newest NAIA volleyball rankings.
Soraru made 24 attacks without an error. Fia Faa'agi, a sophomore from Murrieta, Calif., picked up 11 kills, and Sanja Vojnovic, a junior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, dished out 42 assists for OCU.
The Stars' Dani Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., produced 14 digs, while Marijana Bjelobrk, a freshman from Belgrade, Serbia, knocked down six kills.
In the first set, OCU erased 13-10 and 15-13 deficits. The Stars took the lead for good with three points in a row to go up 18-16. Soraru and Vojnovic smashed back-to-back kills to give Oklahoma City a 20-17 edge. Soraru and Holly Randall posted consecutive kills to put away the set.
Soraru nailed a kill to give OCU a 9-1 second-set advantage. In the third, Faa'agi and Mandy Martincich combined on a block to put the Stars ahead 21-12 and cap a 5-0 OCU run.
The Stars meet Southwestern Christian at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Bethany, Okla.
