OCU stomps Bacone 19-1

Stars move into 6 p.m. game Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University demolished Bacone 19-1 on Friday at Jim Wade Stadium to stay afloat in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament.
Wayland Baptist (Texas) moved the Stars into the elimination bracket 8-6 earlier Friday. Oklahoma City (38-18) plays 6 p.m. Saturday against the loser of the 2 p.m. Texas Wesleyan-Wayland Baptist contest Saturday.

Against Bacone, Jared Baker belted two home runs for his second multi-homer game of his career. Baker hit three homers on the day.
OCU ripped three homers in the fifth inning as Dilon Argo and Skyler Bean went yard back-to-back. The Stars reached 20 hits for the fourth time and 19 runs or more on the fifth occasion this year.
Hunter Marcum's two-run base hit put OCU ahead 5-0 in the first. J.J. Bissell smacked an RBI single to right field to give the Stars a second-inning 7-0 advantage.
Dylan Delso stretched OCU's lead to 10-0 in the third with a sacrifice fly to right. Oklahoma City piled up eight runs in the fifth. Bean hammered a homer and an RBI double to left in the fifth inning.
Baker, a junior from Edmond, Okla., posted a 3-for-5 performance with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs, while Landon Coon, a senior from Dale, Okla., went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three runs scored and a run driven in for OCU.
Bissell, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo., went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and four RBIs, and Argo, a senior from Jenks, Okla., was 2-for-3, scored three times and drove in two runs. Joe Lytle, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two runs driven in, and Bean, a junior from Garland, Texas, was 2-for-2 with a run scored and two runs brought in for the Stars. Garrett Foster, a sophomore from Ardmore, Okla., went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
Jake Carson notched the victory to move to 6-0 this year. Carson, a senior right-hander from Auburn, Wash., shut out Bacone on three hits while striking out three in five innings. Ricky Spain pitched the sixth, while Chance Weinstein worked the seventh.
Wayland Baptist erased Oklahoma City's 6-3 lead with five runs in the sixth. Jake Doyle's two-run double proved to be the difference.
Baker launched a three-run dinger beyond the center-field wall to put the Stars in front in the fifth. Joe Haddox tied the game 3-3 with a solo blast over the left-center field wall.
Coon knocked in a run on a grounder in the third, and Hunter Marcum drew a second-inning bases-loaded walk for OCU.
Haddox, a senior from Moore, Okla., was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Lytle had a 2-for-4 performance with a run scored.
Taylor Bridges scooped up the win with five innings of relief. Grant Hamilton took the loss.
