Stars fall short to Texas Wesleyan 12-8

Haddox brings OCU even on eighth-inning two-run homer

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University bowed out of the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament 12-8 to Texas Wesleyan on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars rallied with five runs in the top of the eighth inning, but Texas Wesleyan responded with four runs in the bottom of the eighth. Oklahoma City went to 38-19.
The NAIA Championship Opening Round pairings will be announced 3 p.m. CDT Friday. OCU received votes in the most previous NAIA rankings.
Texas Wesleyan, ranked 22nd in the NAIA, meets 24th-ranked Wayland Baptist (Texas) at noon Sunday with a berth in the SAC Tournament championship on the line. Wayland Baptist could advance to Monday's game with a win, while Texas Wesleyan needs two victories to go to the title game at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU tied the game 8-8 in the eighth as Joe Haddox clubbed a two-out, two-run home run over the center-field wall.
Cory Linn belted a two-run blast over the left-field to cut the Stars' deficit to 8-5 and ignite OCU's eight-inning rally. Skyler Bean smacked a pinch-hit RBI single to right to slice Texas Wesleyan's lead to 8-6.
In the bottom of the eighth, Casey Moses drove in the winning run on a single to right with one out.
The Stars erased Texas Wesleyan's 7-0 second-inning advantage. Hunter Marcum and Landon Coon hit run-scoring base hits in the third to give OCU its first two runs of the game. Dilon Argo doubled into the right-center field gap to knock in the Stars' third run of the contest in the seventh.
Argo, a senior from Jenks, Okla., went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored, and Garrett Foster, a sophomore from Ardmore, Okla., was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for OCU. Haddox, a senior from Moore, Okla., and Linn, a junior from Moore, Okla., each brought in two runs.
