Stars edged 9-7 in extras vs. Southwestern

OCU stays alive with tying runs in eighth, 10th innings

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University dropped an extra-innings affair to Southwestern Oklahoma State 9-7 on Tuesday night at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU tied the game late twice on Garrett Foster's bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth and Joe Haddox's RBI single in the 10th, but SWOSU outlasted the Stars with two runs in the top of the 11th. The Stars, ranked 13th in NAIA baseball, fell to 28-12 on the season, while the NCAA Division II Bulldogs improved to 21-11.
The Bulldogs grabbed an early run in the first inning and extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning on an OCU throwing error.
Haddox put across J.J. Bissell for the Stars' first run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut SWOSU's lead to 2-1.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Bissell launched a three-run home run to left-center field to put the Stars in front 4-2.
The Bulldogs recaptured the lead in the next half inning on a two-run double by Joshua Santos and two-run Jacob Spring home run to take a 6-4 advantage.
OCU's Landon Coon and Dylan Delso led off the eighth inning with back-to-back singles, while Jared Baker reached on a throwing error that allowed Coon to score. SWOSU pitcher Jeremy Smith proceeded to walk Bissell to load the bases and Foster, which pushed the tying run across at 6-6.
Cole Wagner of SWOSU clubbed a solo homer in the top of the 10th to take a one-run lead, however the Stars tied it again in the bottom half of the frame.
Bissell hit a leadoff single and advanced to second base on a Foster sacrifice bunt, before Haddox hit a game-tying RBI single.
The Bulldogs moved ahead for good with a two-run RBI single by Spring in the top of the 11th as the Stars didn't answer in their attempt in the second half inning.
The game featured 10 total pitchers. Quinton Dougherty of SWOSU received the win in two innings of relief, while OCU reliever Holden Lyons took the loss and fell to 1-2 on the season.
Bissell went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs and his 12th home run of the season, while Coon finished 3-for-5 with two runs.
The Stars start their three-game series against conference foe Bacone at 2 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
