OCU thumps Bacone 8-4

Stars build 8-1 lead through five innings

MUSKOGEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University took an 8-4 win over Bacone on Friday at Warrior Field.
Dilon Argo sparked the Stars with a three-run double in the second inning. OCU, ranked 12th in NAIA baseball, improved to 29-12, 10-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the second, Joe Haddox walked to load the bases for Argo. Argo nailed a double to right-center field to clear the bases. Argo scored when Bacone first baseman Garrett Totty committed an error.
OCU increased its lead to 6-1 in the fourth. Joe Lytle knocked in a run on a groundout, then Landon Coon added a sacrifice fly.
In the fifth, the Stars added two more runs. Garrett Foster swatted an RBI double to left field, and Hunter Marcum had an RBI grounder.
OCU's J.J. Bissell, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo., went 3-for-5 and scored a run, and Foster, a sophomore from Ardmore, Okla., was 3-for-5, scored a run, stole a base and drove in a run. Argo, a senior from Jenks, Okla., went 2-for-6, scored twice, drove in three runs and swiped a base, while Coon, a senior from Dale, Okla., was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Skylar Janisse notched 10 strikeouts while holding Bacone to one run on five hits in seven innings. Janisse, a senior right-hander from Maidstone, Ontario, Canada, moved to 5-3.
Holden Lyons pitched the final 1.1 innings while posting his third save of the year. Lyons entered the game in the eighth with runners on first and third base. Lyons got out of a bases-full jam by striking out Smailit Feliz.
The Stars finish their series against Bacone with a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
