Stars fall 4-3 against Pioneers

OCU drops regular-season finale versus WBU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University dropped the rubber match against Wayland Baptist (Texas) 4-3 on Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU starter Skylar Janisse struck out six batters and allowed one run over seven innings, but the Pioneers staged a late rally against the Stars bullpen to take the last game of the three-game regular-season series. Oklahoma City fell to 32-17, 13-8 in Sooner Athletic Conference, while WBU improved to 37-14 and 13-8 in the SAC.
OCU's J.J. Bissell broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo shot over the right-center field wall.
Pioneers' Austin Davis matched the score with a solo blast over the left-field wall in the top of the fifth inning.
The Stars regained the lead in the bottom frame of the fifth by scoring two runs on two outs. Joe Lytle drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Landon Coon singled which chased WBU starter Paxton Bartley out of the game and put runners of the corners. Dylan Delso smoked a single up the middle to plate Lytle, while Jared Baker scored Coon on a single to right field in the next at-bat.
OCU unraveled in the top of the ninth inning when reliever Carlos Chavez hit a batter, WBU's Davis reached on a two-base error and Taylor Grady hit a two-run single to notch the game at 3-3. Pioneers' Will Bass moved Grady into scoring position at second base with a single and Brayden Blackwell followed with a run-scoring single to give WBU the 4-3 edge.
WBU reliever Taylor Bridges closed the door in the ninth inning to collect the win in 4.1 innings pitched with six strikeouts.
OCU's Chavez took the loss and moved to 3-2 on the season. Grant Hamilton of OCU pitched a scoreless eighth inning with three strikeouts.
Dilion Argo, a senior from Jenks, Okla., went 2-for-2 with two singles and a walk. Bissell's homer was his 14th of the season.
