McSpadden from OCU takes 1,500th win

Stars rally past Baker 7-4, Kansas Wesleyan 6-1 on Friday

WICHITA, Kan. – Oklahoma City University softball coach Phil McSpadden reached 1,500 career victories after the Stars' 7-4 eight-inning win over Baker (Kan.) and a 6-1 triumph over Kansas Wesleyan at Two Rivers Youth Club in the Friends Tournament.
McSpadden moved his coaching record to 1,500-361 in his 29th year at OCU. The Stars, ranked sixth in the NAIA, improved to 22-0 on the season.
On April 10, 2015, McSpadden took the lead in wins against four-year schools among college softball coaches with OCU's 8-0 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) in Oklahoma City. McSpadden passed NCAA win leader Margie Wright, who had 1,457.
In college softball, only Mike Candrea can claim more victories than McSpadden. Candrea has 1,625 college softball wins – 1,440 at Arizona and 185 on the junior-college level at Central Arizona.
In the first game Friday, Madison Ellis pounded a solo home run to left-center field to tie the game 4-4 with two out in the top of the seventh inning. In the eighth, Amanda Ingram scored the go-ahead run on an error by the Baker center fielder.
Kyndra Holasek added a sacrifice fly, and Kali Pugh drove in a run with a base hit to left for the Stars. Samantha Stallbaumer, a freshman from Haven, Kan., went 4-for-5 and scored three times.
Abby Meador worked all eight innings and allowed four hits and seven walks while striking out 13. Meador, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., improved to 9-0. McSpadden notched win No. 1,499.
Against Kansas Wesleyan, Stephanie Koishor and Holasek hammered homers in the seventh to put OCU in front.
Sha Ingram, running for Bailey Whitmore, scored the tying run in the sixth on an error by the third baseman. Whitmore, a freshman from Oklahoma City, went 3-for-3 with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Leslie Miller (8-0) notched the victory. Miller, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., worked 1.2 innings with three strikeouts. Georgia Wall fanned six in 5.1 innings for OCU.
The Stars take on Hastings (Neb.) at 10 a.m., Northwestern (Iowa) at noon and Midland (Neb.) at 4 p.m. Saturday at Two Rivers Youth Club.
