Stars take trio of wins in Friends Tournament

OCU runs season-starting win streak to 25

WICHITA, Kan. – Oklahoma City University remained unbeaten through 25 games to post the finest start in program history after three wins in the Friends Tournament on Saturday at Two Rivers Youth Club.
The Stars, ranked sixth in NAIA softball, nailed Hastings (Neb.) 6-1, blanked Northwestern (Iowa) 11-0 and hammered Midland (Neb.) 16-3. OCU smacked a season-best six home runs and 20 hits against Midland.
OCU surpassed the 23-0 start it had last year.
Kyndra Holasek clobbered a three-run homer, then Kali Pugh smacked a two-run shot as OCU built an 8-0 lead through two innings.
In the third, Leslie Miller and Laci Joyner swatted two-run blasts to put the Stars up 14-0. Stephanie Koishor and Pugh hit solo shots in the fourth.
Pugh, a junior from Vista, Calif., went 4-for-5, scored three times and drove in four runs, while Holasek, a senior from Mustang, Okla., was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Shelbi Legg, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for OCU.
Georgia Wall, a freshman from Marlow, Okla., struck out seven. Wall (6-0) allowed two earned runs on five hits in five innings.  
Against Northwestern, Miller, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., drove in five runs with three hits, while Abby Meador improved to 10-0. Meador, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., fanned seven and permitted two hits in five innings.
Against Hastings, Madison Ellis homered and drove in two runs. Miller moved to 9-0, striking out nine and allowing one run on three hits in seven innings.
OCU meets Texas Wesleyan in a 2 p.m. twin bill Tuesday in Fort Worth, Texas.
