OCU stomps Oklahoma Wesleyan 19-9

Stars explode for 13 runs in third inning

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University blasted Oklahoma Wesleyan 19-9 on Tuesday night at Jim Wade Stadium.
Jared Baker and Dylan Delso hammered home runs for Oklahoma City. The Stars, ranked 13th in NAIA baseball, improved to 27-9.
OCU plated 19 or more runs and notched 20 or more hits for the third time this year. The Stars scored 18 or more runs for the third consecutive game. OCU erupted for 13 runs in the third inning.
In the third, the Stars brought in five runs by getting hit by pitch three times and drawing two walks with the bases loaded. J.J. Bissell belted a two-out, bases-clearing three-run double off the right-center field wall to put OCU ahead 10-3.
Skyler Bean and Dilon Argo nailed back-to-back doubles to give the Stars a 14-3 advantage. Joe Lytle knocked in another run on a base hit to left for a 15-3 OCU lead.
Baker led off the bottom of the sixth by lofting a full-count pitch over the right-center field wall for his seventh homer of the year. Argo added an RBI single for an 18-9 margin.
Delso finished the game by crushing a 2-2 pitch beyond the right-field wall. Delso hit his seventh homer this year.
Bissell, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo., went 3-for-4, scored twice, doubled twice and drove in four runs, and Argo, a senior from Jenks, Okla., knocked in four runs, doubled and scored a run with a 3-for-5 performance for the Stars. Lytle, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Bean, a junior from Garland, Texas, went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a double.
Baker and Delso had two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs each. Garrett Foster and Joe Haddox collected two hits and three runs scored each.
Jake Carson picked up the win. Carson, a senior right-hander from Auburn, Wash., struck out two in 2.1 innings in moving to 4-0. Grant Hamilton went the first three innings, and Holden Lyons pitched the final 1.2 innings.
OCU resumes Sooner Athletic Conference play against USAO at 6 p.m. Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
