Stars crush Mid-America Christian 20-2

OCU reaches 15 hits for eighth time in 2016

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University blistered Mid-America Christian 20-2 on Friday at James Curtis Field.
J.J. Bissell, Landon Coon and Garrett Foster launched home runs as the Stars scored their most runs this season. Oklahoma City, ranked 15th in NAIA baseball, improved to 25-9, 7-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU plated 20 runs for the first time since a 22-21 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan on April 21, 2015 in Bartlesville, Okla. The Stars posted at least 15 hits for the eighth time this year.
Jared Baker, a junior from Edmond, Okla., knocked in four runs while going 2-for-5 with a double and scoring twice, while Coon, a senior from Dale, Okla., scored four times with a 2-for-2 performance, two RBIs and three walks for the Stars. Joe Lytle, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., scored four times and went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Skyler Bean, a junior from Garland, Texas, was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.
OCU's Dylan Delso, a senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Foster, a sophomore from Ardmore, Okla., had a 2-for-4 performance with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Coon started OCU's scoring by crushing an 0-2 pitch beyond the right-center field with one out in the first inning. In the bottom of the inning, Chevin Noone and Jerry McNew had run-scoring doubles to tie the game 2-2.
Oklahoma City answered with three runs in the second. Foster led off the second by nailing a solo blast over the right-field fence. Lytle added an RBI single, and Delso tacked on a sacrifice fly.
Bissell, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo., provided OCU with its 20-2 advantage in the seventh. Bissell pounded a three-run shot to right to close out the Stars' scoring.
Ricky Parra collected the victory for OCU. Parra (4-1) allowed one earned run on six hits and a walk in six innings. Parra, a junior right-hander from Bronx, N.Y., struck out seven. Jake Carson closed out the game with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh.
The Stars complete their three-game set against Mid-America Christian at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
