Baker delivers in OCU's 6-5 win over Mid-America Christian

Stars improve to 3-1 in extra-inning games this season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Jared Baker drove in the winning run on a single in the bottom of the 11th in Oklahoma City University's 6-5 victory over Mid-America Christian on March 24, 2016 at Jim Wade Stadium.
Grant Hamilton notched the victory for OCU. The Stars, ranked 15th in NAIA baseball, improved to 24-9, 6-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the bottom of the 11th, Baker delivered a base hit to right field with the bases loaded with one out. Dylan Delso reached base on an infield hit to fill the bases. Hunter Marcum scored on Baker's single after getting on with a base hit through the middle of the infield.
Landon Coon reached home plate on a wild pitch in the 10th to equal the score at five runs each. Mid-America's Wyatt Glasgow struck out Skyler Bean with the bases loaded to move the game into the 11th.
Mid-America Christian took a 5-4 lead on Colt Pickens' hit back to Hamilton with two out in the top of the 10th. Hamilton prevented further damage by fanning Jerry McNew on a called third strike to retire the side.
Pickens scored the tying run in the top of the ninth off a wild pitch, knotting the score at 4-4. Coon put OCU on top 4-3 with a base hit to right in the seventh. In the top of the seventh, McNew had a two-run double off the center-field wall to tie the game 3-3.
Garrett Foster provided the Stars a 3-1 advantage by lofting a sacrifice fly to center field in the fourth. In the first, Joe Lytle scored on an error, then Coon added a sacrifice fly to put OCU ahead 2-0.
Delso, a senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., went 3-for-6 with a double, while Baker, a junior from Edmond, Okla., was 3-for-5 with a double, stolen base and an RBI for Oklahoma City. Coon, a senior from Dale, Okla., went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in two runs, and Marcum, a senior from Purcell, Okla., went 2-for-6 with two runs scored.
Hamilton, a senior from Oklahoma City, pitched the final two innings in moving to 3-0 on the year. Hamilton struck out three. Mark Simon worked 6.2 innings and maintained a 3-1 OCU lead until the seventh.
The Stars take on Mid-America Christian at 3 p.m. Friday at James Curtis Field in the second of the three-game series between the two teams.
