OCU puts on hitting clinic in doubleheader rout of Arlington Baptist

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University routed Arlington Baptist (Texas) 19-5 and 9-1 in a doubleheader on Monday at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU's J.J. Bissell and Dylan Delso each went 4-for-5 in the first game, while Hunter Marcum paced the Stars by going 3-for-3 in game two. The Stars, ranked 15th in NAIA baseball, improved to 23-9 on the season, after sweeping the Patriots in a four-game series with the first two games played on Feb. 18 in Grand Praire, Texas.
The Stars bombarded Arlington Baptist in the first two innings of game one by plating five and six runs, respectively.
In the first inning, Landon Coon hit a run-scoring sacrifice fly, while Bissell and Garrett Foster hit two-run doubles.
In the second inning, Jared Baker, Coon and Foster each notched RBI doubles, while Cory Linn and Marcum each added RBI singles. A balk by Patriots' starter Austin Valdez also put across a Stars run.
OCU's Dylan Delso stroked a solo home run in the fifth inning to make it a 13-3 Stars advantage.
In the sixth inning, Bissell blasted a three-run shot over the right-field fence to stretch the OCU lead to 19-3.
Bissell finished with five RBIs and four runs, while Delso nabbed two RBIs and two runs. Foster went 2-for-5 with four RBIs and a run.
OCU starter Skylar Janisse notched eight strikeouts in five innings pitched as he moved to 3-2 on the season.
In the second game, Oklahoma City grabbed the early 1-0 lead off a Jared Baker RBI single in the second inning, and then stretched it to 3-0 an inning later on a Dilon Argo run-scoring single and a Coon sacrifice fly.
The Patriots plated a run in the top of the fourth to cut it to a 3-1 OCU lead, but the Stars responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to widen the gap.
Bissell hit his ninth home run of the season followed by a Skyler Bean RBI double, a Joe Lytle RBI single and a two-run single by Delso.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Coon scorched his fourth home run of the season to make it a 9-1 OCU advantage.
Stars' starter Jake Carson struck out six batters over five innings to improve to 3-0 on the season. OCU's Grant Hamilton and Ricky Spain combined for two innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts.
Lytle and Argo recorded two-hit games, while Marcum scored two runs to go along with his three-hit game.
The Stars resume Sooner Athletic Conference play against Mid-America Christian at 6 p.m. Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
