OCU outlasts Bemidji State to win four-game series

Stars split doubleheader on Sunday, but win four-game series

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rallied to defeat Bemidji State (Minn.) 4-1 in the first game of the doubleheader, while dropping the second game 6-5 on Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU's J.J. Bissell stroked a game-tying leadoff home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to ignite a four-run inning to secure the first game of the doubleheader and the series win. The Stars climbed to 17-8 on the season and remain 3-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
After Bissell's fifth home run of the season, OCU loaded the bases on a Skyler Bean walk, a Dilon Argo single through the infield and Joe Lytle's bunt single to third base. Landon Coon hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Bean and capturing the lead at 2-1. Logan Riedel replaced Beavers' starter Mark Lewinski and promptly walked Dylan Delso to reload the bases. The next batter, Jared Baker scored Argo on a sacrifice fly to leftfield. Cory Linn followed with a single up the middle to plate Lytle and give the Stars a 4-1 edge.
Ricky Parra shut the door in the ninth with a strikeout, earning his third save of the year. Holden Lyons moved to 1-1 on the year with 2.1 scoreless innings after relieving Stars' starter Kenny Roder who pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run.
The Beavers scored their run in the sixth inning on an RBI single that plated a runner who reached on an error.
BSU's Lewinski pitched 7.1 innings and surrendered four runs to drop to 0-2 on the season.
Lytle went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Delso and Linn each recorded two-hit games.
In the second game, the Beavers grabbed the lead first in the third inning on an RBI single by Nick Hovila.
The Stars responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-1 lead. Argo scored on a wild pitch, Lytle scored on an error, Jared Baker came around to score on a passed ball and Hunter Marcum doubled down the leftfield line to plate Linn.
Bemidji State added a run in the top of the fourth on a snap throw from OCU catcher Lytle to third base that went into leftfield.
BSU and OCU exchanged one-run sixth innings on RBI singles to make it 5-3 heading into the final seventh inning.
The Beavers put across three runs in the top of the seventh inning on an error and a two-run single to take the lead 6-5. OCU's Ricky Spain received the loss to move to 0-1 on the season.
Stars' starter Grant Hamilton went four innings with four strikeouts and two runs allowed, while Chance Weinstein notched two innings of relief, surrendering one run.
BSU reliever Patrick Gonzales struck out two batters in the final inning to pick up the win for the Beavers.
Lytle finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run, while Bissell went 2-for-4.
OCU returns to action against Dallas Christian at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
