OCU snares 5-2 win over LSU-Shreveport

Delso knocks in three runs for Stars

SHREVEPORT, La. – Oklahoma City University took a 5-2 victory over LSU-Shreveport on Friday night at Pilots Field in a battle of top 25-ranked NAIA baseball teams.
Carlos Chavez, a senior right-hander from Rio Rancho, N.M., drove in the winning run with a sixth-inning RBI single while notching the victory with a 13-strikeout performance. The fifth-ranked Stars moved to 3-0 on the season.
OCU's Dylan Delso tacked on a two-run triple to right-center field in the seventh. Grant Hamilton earned the save after working out of a one-out, two-runners-on eighth-inning jam by getting a flyout and fanning Parker Hebert. Hamilton retired Jamal Martin on a fly ball to strand two runners and end the game.
Delso put the Stars up 1-0 with a run-scoring base hit in the first inning. Landon Coon added an RBI single in the fifth for a 2-1 OCU advantage.
Coon, a senior from Dale, Okla., went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Delso, a senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., was 2-for-5 with three runs driven in for OCU. Jared Baker, a junior from Edmond, Okla., scored two runs.
Chavez worked seven innings and allowed six hits. Chavez improved to 9-0 in his OCU career. Hamilton picked up his third career save.
Oklahoma City has a doubleheader against 11th-ranked LSU-Shreveport set for 1 p.m. Saturday in Shreveport, La.
