OCU knocks off St. Gregory's 75-62

Third-seeded Stars to meet Wayland Baptist in SAC Tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University walloped St. Gregory's 75-62 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Oklahoma City, ranked 25th in NAIA men's basketball, took third place in the Sooner Athletic Conference and the third seed in the SAC Tournament on March 2-5 in Waxahachie, Texas. The Stars ended the regular season 15-9, 12-6 in the SAC.
OCU will play Thursday in the SAC Tournament quarterfinals against likely sixth seed Wayland Baptist (Texas). The SAC Tournament pairings are expected out Sunday.
"These guys have that don't-quit attitude," OCU coach Vinay Patel said. "That's what I love about them. Everybody from opposing coaches to fans have commented about how hard these young men play."
Terence Bonhomme and Evan White propelled the Stars with 18 points each. White, a senior from San Antonio, dropped in 6 of 9 shots from the floor and 3-of-5 3-pointers while blocking two shots.
Dorion Gigger, a junior from Oklahoma City, spearheaded OCU's bench with seven points and nine rebounds. The Stars' subs tallied 25 points. Jordan Mason, a junior from Ennis, Texas, contributed seven points, and Jamil Donovan, a senior from Oklahoma City, posted five points and a team-high five assists for OCU.
Bonhomme, a sophomore from St. Martinville, La., ignited OCU with 11 points during a first-half 12-0 Stars surge. OCU erased a nine-point St. Gregory's lead. Bonhomme nailed a trey to put the Stars up 30-27 and cap the OCU run with 1:22 showing in the first period.
Oklahoma City's lead reached double figures on Mason's jumper with 14:24 to go. OCU pushed its lead to 59-44 at the 8:33 mark. Caleb House sparked the splurge by splashing in a 3. Romello Chapman hit a jumper, then Gigger tacked on a 3-point play.
The Stars limited St. Gregory's to 42.6 percent shooting from the field – 36 percent in the second half.
