OCU posts 2-1 victory over Hastings

Baker's fourth-inning RBI single makes difference for Stars

OKLAHOMA CITY – Jared Baker delivered the winning run on a fourth-inning base hit as Oklahoma City University edged Hastings (Neb.) 2-1 on Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Baker, a junior from Edmond, Okla., nailed a single past the first baseman to score Landon Coon from third base with one out for OCU. The Stars, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, notched their fifth victory in a row in moving to 8-6.
In the fourth, Dylan Delso launched a fly ball that Hastings center fielder Donato Santos tracked down deep in right-center. OCU tied the game on Delso's sacrifice fly as Joe Lytle reached home plate from third base.
Kenny Roder posted the win in his first start pitching for Oklahoma City. Roder, a junior left-hander from Hoboken, N.J., struck out four in four innings. He allowed Braxton Arndt's second-inning RBI single and three walks.
Jake Carson, a senior righty from Auburn, Wash., worked two perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts in the fifth and sixth for the Stars. Holden Lyons, a junior right-hander from Edmond, Okla., fanned two in a scoreless seventh to pick up the save.
Lytle, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base for OCU. Cory Linn, a junior from Moore, Okla., was 2-for-2.
The Stars take on Texas A&M-Texarkana in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday in Texarkana, Texas.
