Stars power past Tabor in twin bill

OCU picks up two wins in doubleheader

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University used nine home runs to overwhelm Tabor (Kan.) 13-8 and 9-2 on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium in a matchup of ranked NAIA baseball teams.
The Stars' Jared Baker went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs in the first game, while Dylan Delso slugged a pair of homers in the second game.  The fifth-ranked Stars moved to 10-6 on the season and No. 4 Tabor dropped to 7-5.
Oklahoma City struck first in game one in the bottom of the first inning as Landon Coon plated two runs with a double down the rightfield line. Two batters later, Baker doubled down the leftfield line to score Coon.
The Stars batted around and scored seven in the second inning to go up 10-0. After Garrett Foster's leadoff single, Hunter Marcum stroked a two-run home run to right-center field. Dilon Argo and Joe Lytle hit back-to-back doubles with the latter plating Argo. Coon singled through the right side to score Lytle, then Delso followed with a RBI double which chased Tabor's starter Thomas Longworth out of the game. A few batters later, J.J. Bissell hit a sacrifice fly to score Delso's pinch runner Joe Haddox. Foster, who started the inning, hit a RBI double to centerfield to bring Baker in who had reached on a walk.
The Bluejays responded in the top of the third inning with six runs scoring on two errors and five hits.
Tabor added a run in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Stars lead to 10-7. The Stars answered in the bottom of the frame with a Baker two-run home run and a solo shot by Bissell to extend their lead to 13-7.
OCU's starter Carlos Chavez improved to 2-1 on five innings pitched and six strikeouts. Coon went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, while Foster finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
In the second game, the Stars jumped on top early again in the first inning. Delso singled in a run followed by a two-run homer to leftfield by Baker to put the Stars ahead 3-0.
Bissell tacked on a run with a solo blast in the bottom of the second inning to make it a 4-0 OCU lead.
In the third inning, Coon hit a leadoff single and Delso hit his first home run of the game over the rightfield fence. Two batters later, Cory Linn scorched a ball over the centerfield wall to stretch the Stars' lead to 7-0.
The Bluejays scored two in the top of the fifth inning to cut it to a 7-2 OCU lead.
In the bottom half of the fifth inning, Delso crushed his second home run of the game over the centerfield fence.
