Wayland Baptist derails Stars 86-76

White propels OCU with 19 points

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Oklahoma City University took an 86-76 loss to Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Thursday at the Hutcherson Center.
Evan White, a senior from San Antonio, boosted the Stars with 19 points and four 3-pointers. OCU, ranked 23rd in NAIA Division I men's basketball, moved to 11-8, 8-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Dorion Gigger, a junior from Oklahoma City, provided the Stars with 18 points, 12 rebounds and four steals for his seventh double-double this season, while Jordan Mason, a junior from Ennis, Texas, pitched in 12 points and four rebounds.
Terence Bonhomme piled up 10 points, and Jamil Donovan dished out a team-best five assists for OCU.
Wayland Baptist increased its lead to 57-41 on Aniete Jack's 3-point play at the 16:25 mark of the second half.
OCU chipped away at its deficit. The Stars reeled off a 10-0 run as Mason hit a jumper to cut their deficit to 72-69 with 4:08 showing. White nailed consecutive treys to key the OCU rally.
Wayland answered with Jordan Tolbert's free throws and another Jack 3-point play. Wayland Baptist hit all six of its free-throw tries in the final minute to seal its win.
The Stars limited Wayland Baptist to 36 percent shooting in the second half after Wayland Baptist shot 53.3 percent from the field in the first period.
OCU faces Southwestern Christian at 8 p.m. Monday at Abe Lemons Arena.
