OCU vs. Haskell women's basketball preview

Stars meets Haskell in first of two consecutive contests

THE MATCHUP:
Oklahoma City University steps outside of conference play to take on Haskell (Kan.).
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students, while OCU students, faculty and staff are allowed into all regular-season OCU athletics events for free with their ID.

ABOUT THE STARS: The Stars blew by No. 22 Wayland Baptist (Texas) 100-65 on Saturday in Oklahoma City. OCU (8-1, 2-0 Sooner Athletic Conference) opened the game on an 11-2 run and led by as many as 40 points.
Daniela Wallen, a 5-foot-11 senior from Caracas, Venezuela, collected 31 points, four rebounds and five steals. It was the second time she scored at least 30 in a game this season. Wallen produces 22.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.89 steals a game, ranking fourth nationally in points per game.
Daniela Galindo, a 5-10 junior from Shattuck, Okla., produced 24 points, eight assists, six rebounds and three blocked shots. She shot 10-for-16 from the field and 4-for-8 from 3-point-range. Galindo reels in 17.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.22 steals per contest. Allison Frey, a junior from Mustang, Okla., provided the Stars with 10 points, three rebounds and an assist off the bench.
As a team, the Stars top the NAIA in assists per game (20.0) and field-goal percentage (52.7). To see where OCU ranks against the NAIA statistically, click here.
Oklahoma City holds the ninth spot in the latest NAIA rankings. OCU extended its streak of top-25 showings to 206 consecutive polls since 1999-2000. OCU owns national championships from 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014 and 2015. SAC coaches installed the Stars as the league's preseason favorite. OCU has won or shared the SAC regular-season crown 16 times.
Wednesday marks the first matchup between the two schools in women's basketball.

ABOUT THE INDIANS: Haskell dropped Ottawa (Kan.) 70-67 on Monday, Nov. 28 in Lawrence, Kan. Janee Bates' bucket gave Haskell (7-5) the go ahead points with 1:29 left as the Indians scored the last six points of the game.
Cierra Moss, a 5-7 junior, scored a season-high 12 points with three rebounds and three assists off the bench. Moss picks up 6.0 points and 2.0 rebounds a game while shooting 41.9 percent from the floor. Cerissa Honena-Reyes, a 5-4 senior, scored eight points and leads Haskell in scoring with 12.5 points per contest.
Haskell ranks third in NAIA Division II with 170 steals.

ABOUT THE COACHES: Bo Overton returns to OCU for his second season as its head coach. Overton has coaching experience on the professional level in China, Russia and the WNBA, as well as college head-coaching experience with Missouri-Kansas City. Overton has been an assistant on the international level for the Bahamas and China, including the 2012 Olympics with the Chinese team.
Shane Flanagan begins his fourth year at Haskell. He coached under his father, Don Flanagan for five years at New Mexico. Prior to entering the college arena, Flanagan coached at Eldorado High School in Albuquerque where they had one state championship.
