OCU drops 67-57 decision to Haskell

Stars suffer first loss of season

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Oklahoma City University's men's basketball team took its first loss of the season Saturday 67-57 to Haskell (Kan.) at Tony Coffin Sports Complex.
Terence Bonhomme led the Stars with 21 points. Oklahoma City, ranked fifth in NAIA Division I, dropped to 10-1 on the season while Haskell moved to 2-13.
The Stars shot just 32.2 percent from the floor and were outrebounded 49-31. Bonhomme, a junior from St. Martinville, La., had two assists and four steals.
"Give Haskell all of the credit," Stars head coach Vinay Patel said. "They outplayed us for 40 minutes. I'm not sure if we beat them to a loose ball the entire game. Our guys did not match their intensity from the tip and the glaring thing that sticks out is the rebound statistics."
OCU held a 14-2 advantage in fastbreak points and a 28-18 advantage in points in the paint, but were unable to get it going from beyond the arc, making just 3 of 18 shots.
Syrus McDonald, a senior from Flint, Mich., provided the Stars with 15 points, one steal and one block.
"There is no doubt we have several things that will need to be addressed over our next few practices if we want a better outcome the next time we hit the floor," Patel said.
T'salidi Seqouia led Haskell with 22 points and eight rebounds.
The Stars will take on Philander Smith (Ark.) Wednesday in Little Rock, Ark. at 6 p.m.
