Stars trample Trinity Bible 114-72

OCU produces highest point total since 2003

MOORE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University steamrolled Trinity Bible (N.D.) 114-72 on Saturday at the Randall Activities Center in the Randall Classic.
The Stars piled up their most points since a 120-85 victory over Mid-America Christian on Nov. 4, 2003 at Abe Lemons Arena. Oklahoma City, ranked fifth in NAIA Division I men's basketball, improved to 10-0.
OCU notched season highs with 45 field goals, 15 3-pointers, 25 assists and 61 rebounds. Tyler Alderman, a senior from Fishers, Ind., racked up his second consecutive double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds for the Stars. Alderman dished out three assists and knocked in 11 of 16 shots from the field.
Terence Bonhomme, a junior from St. Martinville, La., supplied OCU with 20 points, five rebounds and six assists while firing in 6 of his 8 3-point shots. Xavier Smith, a senior from Richardson, Texas, posted 18 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots for the Stars.
The Stars' Walter Rickett, a junior from Dallas, notched 16 points and eight rebounds, while Ben Eck, a freshman from Piedmont, Okla., tallied 13 points while sinking 4 of 9 from 3-point range. Syrus McDonald, a senior from Flint, Mich., recorded eight points, seven rebounds and eight assists.
The Stars reached 100 points for the third time this season. OCU has its first 10-0 start since rolling to a 29-0 record in 2006-07.
"We learned a little bit more about our team this weekend," OCU coach Vinay Patel said. "I thought we did a great job attacking a zone today. We got some really good minutes out of our bench, and continue to improve defensively as a team. I'm excited to get some practice time this week to continue to clean things up as we prepare for a big game this coming week."
McDonald provided OCU its largest lead of the day by scoring on a breakaway layup for a 96-51 advantage with 8:42 left. Alderman fed McDonald after swiping the ball from Jaden Shockley of Trinity Bible.
The Stars meet Haskell (Kan.) at 4 p.m. Dec. 17 in Lawrence, Kan.
