OCU runs past John Brown 84-76

Dunbar scores game-high 27 to lead Stars

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University's men's basketball team used a big second half to open Sooner Athletic Conference play with an 84-76 win over John Brown (Ark.) at Bill George Arena on Thursday.
Oklahoma City outscored the Golden Eagles 47-32 in the second half and Lou Dunbar poured in 27 points to help the Stars come away with the win. The Stars, ranked 18th in NAIA Division I, went to 7-0, 1-0 in the SAC.

Dunbar, a junior from Seabrook, Texas, was 5-for-7 from beyond the arc while also providing two steals and a block in the contest.
"John Brown has a really good basketball team," OCU head coach Vinay Patel said. "Any time you can go on the road and steal a win in this conference, it's really big for your team."
Along with Dunbar, all five of the starters for the Stars scored in double figures. Tyler Alderman and Xavier Smith both provided 12 points for the Stars, while Syrus McDonald and Terence Bonhomme scored 11 and 10 respectively.
Smith, a senior from Richardson, Texas, led the team with six rebounds and three blocked shots while Alderman, a senior from Fishers, Ind., pulled down four rebounds with one block and one steal.
The Stars were down throughout the first half, but used a 12-3 run in the middle of the second half to move ahead 62-55 and led the rest of the way. OCU shot 60.4 percent from the floor and 47.1 percent from 3-point-range.
"Lou Dunbar is one of the best shooters I've ever coached," Patel said. "When he is taking the right shots and hits his first one or two he can really heat up from almost anywhere on the floor."
Zach English led JBU with 21 points while also pulling down four rebounds and dishing out two assists.
The Stars will be back in action in Oklahoma City 3 p.m. Saturday against Wayland Baptist at Abe Lemons Arena.
