Stars sail past Southwestern Christian

OCU's ranking improves to 12th

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rolled to a 25-15, 25-15, 25-20 victory over Southwestern Christian on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Fia Faa'agi, a sophomore from Murrieta, Calif., smacked a career-best 16 kills for Oklahoma City. The Stars (23-3, 14-0 Sooner Athletic Conference) moved up to 12th in the latest NAIA volleyball rankings.
Sanja Vojnovic, a junior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, handed out 37 assists to go with four digs for OCU. Manon Soraru, a junior from Mulhouse, France, contributed seven kills, six digs and two aces, and Shekinah Clarke, a sophomore from Waianae, Hawaii, picked up seven kills, four digs and three aces for the Stars.
OCU's Stefani Nell, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., reeled in a team-best eight digs, while Dani Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., scooped up six digs.
In the first set, the Stars broke an 8-8 tie with four points in a row. Clarke hammered two kills to key the run. Soraru served up back-to-back aces as OCU reeled off five consecutive points to go up 22-12.
Nell punctuated OCU's 5-0 second-set surge with an ace. The Stars went up 14-6 with the run.
Faa'agi's pair of kills put OCU ahead 15-9 in the third set. Faa'agi sparked a 4-0 run.
The Stars take on Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 7 p.m. Friday in Plainview, Texas.
