OCU topples Wayland Baptist

Bjelobrk fuels 12th-ranked Stars with season-best performance

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Oklahoma City University remained unbeaten in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 25-15 victory over Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Friday night at the Hutcherson Center.
Marijana Bjelobrk, a freshman from Belgrade, Serbia, posted a career-high 22 kills to go with two blocks for the Stars. Oklahoma City, ranked 12th in NAIA volleyball, moved to 24-3, 15-0 in the SAC.
OCU took its 16th consecutive win and 18th league win in a row dating to last season.
The Stars' Sanja Vojnovic, a junior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, accumulated 56 assists and 14 digs for her third 50-assist performance of the season. Manon Soraru, a junior from Mulhouse, France, supplied OCU with 17 kills and two blocks, and Shekinah Clarke, a sophomore from Waianae, Hawaii, produced 13 kills and 14 digs.
Stefani Nell, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., picked up 21 digs and three kills, while Dani Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., tracked down 19 digs for the Stars. Holly Randall, a junior from Edmond, Okla., socked eight kills for OCU.
To secure the win, the Stars reeled off a 6-0 run in the fourth set. Bjelobrk had three kills, and Clarke added another as OCU went up 20-13. OCU tallied five of the last six points of the match. Soraru hammered three kills, while Clarke smashed one kill.
Oklahoma City plays next against Bacone at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
