OCU flattens Mid-America Christian

13th-ranked Stars rack up third consecutive 20-win season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University posted its third consecutive 20-win season with a 25-14, 25-21, 25-15 victory over Mid-America Christian on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Shekinah Clarke, a sophomore from Waianae, Hawaii, sparked the Stars with nine kills and 11 digs. OCU, ranked 13th in NAIA volleyball, improved to 20-3, 11-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Oklahoma City has notched 20 victories each year under Kyle Steele's guidance. Steele boasts of a 61-23 record in his third season as Stars head coach. The Stars had previously compiled three 20-win seasons in a row from 2006-08, the first three years OCU had revived volleyball as an intercollegiate sport.
Sanja Vojnovic, a junior from Bajeljena, Bosnia, supplied the Stars with 37 assists, six digs and a season-high four aces, while Dani Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., recorded 14 digs and two aces.
OCU's Manon Soraru, a junior from Mulhouse, France, added eight kills and four digs, and Fia Faa'agi, a sophomore from Murrieta, Calif., had seven kills in 12 attacks without an error.
In the first set, the Stars put together an 8-0 surge spurred on by Soraru's three kills. OCU led 21-12.
OCU secured the win by building a 7-2 third-set lead on Clarke's kill. The Stars reeled off the final six points of the match as Vojnovic's block gave OCU match point, then Vojnovic knocked down a kill to clinch the contest.
The Stars meet Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 7 p.m. Friday in Waxahachie, Texas.
