OCU edges John Brown 76-67 in final minutes

Stars improve their conference winning streak to four games

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University avenged its earlier season loss at home against John Brown (Ark.) by beating the Golden Eagles 76-67 on Saturday at Bill George Arena.
Terence Bonhomme, a sophomore from St. Martinville, La., scored a team-high 23 points, while adding two assists and two steals. With the win, the Stars moved to 10-6 on the season and now are tied for second place in the Sooner Athletic Conference at 7-3.
Oklahoma City led 35-26, but John Brown erased the nine-point deficit in less than two minutes in the second half. The second half featured four lead changes and five ties.
Lou Dunbar, a sophomore from Seabrook, Texas, made a jumper to put the Stars up by seven points at 63-56 with 6:54 left to play in the game.
The Golden Eagles responded by going on an 8-0 run and recapturing the lead at 64-63 with 4:59 left on the clock.
Jamil Donovan, a senior from Oklahoma City, sank a free throw to tie the game at 64-64 with 3:47 left to play in the game.
The Stars then finished the game off on a 12-3 run featuring two 3-pointers, four free throws and a jumper. The Golden Eagles missed their last six shots from the field.
Dorion Gigger, a junior from Oklahoma City, notched his third straight double-double by scoring 10 points and collecting 10 rebounds.
Evan White, a senior from San Antonio, supplied the Stars with 13 points and five rebounds, while Dunbar finished with 10 points.
The Stars shot 49.1 percent from the field, while holding the Golden Eagles to 38.3 percent. OCU scored 18 points off of 14 JBU turnovers, while the Golden Eagles managed six points from the Stars' nine turnovers.
John Brown outrebounded Oklahoma City 31-29.
OCU faces Mid-America Christian in a matchup between the second-place teams in the conference 8 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
