Mid-America surges past Stars 78-76

OCU falls to 2-3 against top 25-ranked teams in 2015-16

OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian pulled off a 78-76 win over Oklahoma City University on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena in a battle of ranked NAIA Division I men's basketball teams.
Lou Dunbar's corner 3-point try at the buzzer bounded off the rim for 25th-ranked OCU (10-7, 7-4 Sooner Athletic Conference). Jerrick Massenburge sank free throws with 42 seconds left to put 12th-ranked Mid-America Christian (18-5, 8-3 SAC) in front.
Mid-America erased the Stars' 11-point advantage as Massenburge drained four 3-pointers in the final 4:36. Massenburge's back-to-back-to-back treys turned a 72-62 OCU lead into a 72-71 edge.
Mid-America's Exzavia Seaton added a key block on Terence Bonhomme's jump shot with 14 seconds left to deny the Stars.
Bonhomme, a sophomore from St. Martinsville, La., powered Oklahoma City with 34 points and three steals. Bonhomme nailed four 3s and 10 of 11 free throws.
Dorion Gigger, a junior from Oklahoma City, added 11 points and five rebounds, while Dunbar, a sophomore from Seabrook, Texas, contributed nine points, four rebounds and three treys for the Stars. Noel Allen topped OCU with eight rebounds, and Romello Chapman scored a season-high eight points.
Bonhomme knocked in consecutive treys both off Jamil Donovan feeds to open the second half. Chapman chipped in a 3-point play to provide the Stars with their biggest advantage of the night 54-35 with 17:26 to go.
Massenburge ignited Mid-America with 20 points, 17 in the second half. He nailed six treys, five of which came in the second period. Mid-America Christian shot 53.7 percent from the field to overcome 25 turnovers.
Oklahoma City takes on Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 5 p.m. Saturday in Waxahachie, Texas.
