Stars clip Drovers 89-82

OCU completes another late-game victory

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Oklahoma City University slipped past USAO 89-82 in their second consecutive come-from-behind win on Saturday at USAO Fieldhouse.
Noel Allen, a senior from Guttenberg, N.J., guided the Stars with a season-high 22 points, while grabbing 11 rebounds. OCU leapfrogged USAO in the Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball standings as the Stars now sit at 5-3 and 8-6 overall.
Dorion Gigger, a junior from Oklahoma City, notched a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Terence Bonhomme, a sophomore from St. Martinville, La., added 11 points, three assists and two steals.
After trailing the Drovers 41-33 at the half, OCU went on a 10-3 run to cut USAO's lead to 44-43 in just four minutes into the second half.
USAO built its lead back up to 10 points at 63-53 with 11:44 left to play.
OCU's Lou Dunbar, a sophomore from Seabrook, Texas, nailed a jumper with 4:58 left to bring the game within five points at 75-70.
The Stars then went on a 7-0 run and took the lead 77-75 with 3:05 to play. The sequence included a Jonathan Reed layup, two free throws from Gigger and a 3-pointer from Bonhomme.
After a Drover free throw, Bonhomme sank another trey to stretch the Stars' lead to four with 2:28 left.
OCU didn't relinquish the lead as they closed out the game on a 9-6 run and shot 7-for-8 at the free throw line.
Oklahoma City shot 25 of 27 from the line for 92.6 percent, while USAO were 10-for-21 for 47.6 percent from the charity line.
The Stars owned the rebounding margin 51-38 and forced 13 Drover turnovers, while committing seven turnovers.
Dunbar finished with 18 points, three steals and an assist, while Reed compiled six points, two assists and a steal.
OCU returns home to play Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 8 p.m. on Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena.
