OCU storms back to win 64-61 against SGU

Stars snap three-game winning streak with comeback win

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University erased a 15-point halftime deficit to win 64-61 against St. Gregory's on Thursday at Don Sumner Fieldhouse.
Terence Bonhomme, a sophomore from St. Martinville, La., hit a game-winning trey with 23 seconds left in the second half to put the Stars up 62-61. After a missed Cavaliers shot, Noel Allen, a senior from Guttenberg, N.J., added a pair of free throws to cushion the lead in the final seconds. The Stars improved to 7-6 on the season and 4-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball.
Bonhomme finished with 15 points, two steals and a rebound, while Allen notched a double-double with 18 points and season-high 12 rebounds.
Jamil Donovan, a senior from Oklahoma City, tallied 11 points, four assists, two steals and three rebounds.
Oklahoma City opened up the second half on an 11-2 run to cut the Cavaliers lead to six points within the first three minutes.
SGU stretched its lead up to 11 points followed by an OCU 12-2 run to tie the game with 8:05 to play, the first tie since the 17:45 mark of the first half.
SGU's Richard Shields made two free throws and scored a basket off a turnover in the paint to put the Cavaliers up 61-59 with 51 seconds left.
Bonhomme and Allen's points finalized the Stars' comeback as OCU outscored the Cavaliers 45-27 in the second half.
The Stars shot 41 percent from the field in the second half compared to 26.7 percent in the first half.
St. Gregory's were held to 34.6 percent shooting from the field in the second half after shooting 52.4 percent in the first half.
Oklahoma City outrebounded St. Gregory's 38-33.
OCU is back in action at 5 p.m. Saturday at USAO in Chickasha, Okla.
