OCU drops 92-78 decision to Mid-America Christian

Stars take first loss of season to top-25 opponent

OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian handed Oklahoma City University a 92-78 defeat Thursday night at the Gaulke Activity Center.
Lou Dunbar, a sophomore from Seabrook, Texas, posted 21 points and five 3-pointers for OCU. The Stars went to 6-5, 3-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while Mid-America, ranked 15th in NAIA Division I men's basketball, moved to 13-3, 3-1 in the SAC.
Dunbar sank 8 of his 12 shots from the field. Evan White, a senior from San Antonio, picked up 17 points and five rebounds, while Jonathan Reed, a sophomore from Powder Springs, Ga., totaled a career-high 13 points to go with three assists and two steals for Oklahoma City.
The Stars dropped to 2-1 against ranked competition this season. Mid-America Christian rang up a season-high point total for an OCU opponent. While OCU held the advantage in points off the bench 44-25, Mid-America built a 47-28 rebounding advantage and 18-6 lead in second-chance points.
"Give MACU all the credit," OCU coach Vinay Patel said. "They can really score the basketball. We did well in spurts, but we need to be consistent with our play."
Terence Bonhomme connected on a pair of free throws midway through the first half to put the Stars on top 19-12. Mid-America clawed its way back as Nick Tate's trey put his team ahead 28-25 with 4:33 left in the first half.
OCU cut its deficit to five points twice in the second period. Alex James scored inside the paint to slice the margin to 56-51 with 13:20 left. Jordan Mason's bucket with 7:53 to go shrank Mid-America Christian's lead to 69-64.
The Stars face Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 5 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
