Stars clip Southwestern Christian

OCU earns fourth league victory of year

BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma City University remained unbeaten in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball play with a 25-13, 25-16, 24-26, 25-16 win over Southwestern Christian on Tuesday at Pickens-Springer Gymnasium.
Hannah Mitcham, a senior from Fort Worth, Texas, produced 39 assists to lead Oklahoma City. The Stars moved to 8-3, 4-0 in the SAC.
Mitcham added five digs, four kills and two blocks, while Tori Leisure, a senior from Haslet, Texas, hammered nine kills to top the Stars. Stefani Nell, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., picked up seven kills and nine digs, and Jami-Rae Renwick, a senior from Emerald Park, Saskatchewan, Canada, nailed seven kills for OCU.
Dani Chase, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., contributed 18 digs and two aces, and Caitlin Chamness, a sophomore from Littleton, Colo., posted four aces for Oklahoma City.
Chamness and Chase served up aces as the Stars built a 10-2 first-set advantage. Nell and Fia Faa'agi socked kills as OCU's lead grew to 20-9. Faa'agi and Shekinah Clarke teamed on a block, then Nell and Manon Soraru combined on a block to help close out the set for the Stars.
Renwick pounded a pair of kills sandwiched around a Leisure kill, while Soraru added an ace to guide OCU to a 22-13 second-set lead.
Chamness' back-to-back-to-back aces staked Oklahoma City to a 6-2 fourth-set lead. Nell had consecutive kills to give OCU a 19-11 edge en route to the victory.
The Stars plays host to Wayland Baptist (Texas), ranked 20th in the NAIA, at 11 a.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
