OCU hammers Mid-America Christian

Stars post second SAC win of season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University stomped Mid-America Christian 25-13, 25-15, 25-15 on Thursday at the Gaulke Center.
Hannah Mitcham, a senior from Fort Worth, Texas, pocketed 18 assists and five digs for the Stars. Oklahoma City upped its record to 6-3, 2-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Stefani Nell, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., provided OCU with six kills and three blocks, and Tori Leisure, a senior from Haslet, Texas, chipped in five kills and two blocks. Jami-Rae Renwick, a senior from Emerald Park, Saskatchewan, Canada, picked up five kills, while Manon Soraru, a sophomore from Mulhouse, France, added three kills and three blocks for the Stars.
The Stars erased a 3-2 first-set deficit with seven unanswered points. Dani Chase served up three consecutive aces, while Leisure and Nell nailed kills. Caitlin Chamness posted a pair of aces to put OCU ahead 17-5. The Stars ended with 10 aces.
Oklahoma City took control of the second set with a 7-0 run. Renwick hammered two kills, including one that provided the Stars a 15-6 advantage. Mitcham knocked down a pair of kills during that stretch as well.
OCU makes its 2015 home debut against Southeastern Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Friday at Abe Lemons Arena.
