SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University cruised past John Brown (Ark.) 25-20, 25-8, 25-21 on Tuesday at Bill George Arena.
Stefani Nell and Jami-Rae Renwick of OCU pummeled eight kills each. The Stars improved to 5-3, 1-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Tori Leisure provided the Stars with seven kills, while Hannah Mitcham added 28 assists. Manon Soraru contributed six kills and two blocks.
OCU took control of the first set with a 6-0 run. During that stretch, Nell, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., nailed three kills, including back-to-back kills to give the Stars an 18-11 advantage. John Brown cut its deficit to 22-20 before OCU had the final three points of the set. Heather Watson served up an ace to secure the set.
In the second set, the Stars had three strings of four consecutive points. Watson had an ace to put OCU on top 18-6.
Fia Faa'agi completed OCU's win with the clinching kill.
Oklahoma City visits Mid-America Christian at 7 p.m. Thursday in another SAC tilt.
