LA MIRADA, Calif. – Oklahoma City University dropped a 25-23, 25-20, 25-16 decision to Biola (Calif.) on Saturday at Chase Gymnasium.
Stefani Nell, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., paced OCU with 13 kills and six digs. Biola, ranked second in NAIA volleyball, improved to 5-0 on the year, while the Stars went to 1-2.
Hannah Mitcham, a senior from Fort Worth, Texas, dished out 30 assists, while Jami-Rae Renwick, a senior from Emerald Park, Saskatchewan, Canada, added 10 kills for the Stars. OCU's Tori Leisure, a senior from Haslet, Texas, pitched in nine kills and four blocks, and Shekinah Clarke, a freshman from Waianae, Hawaii, contributed five digs and four blocks.
In the first set, OCU tallied the contest's first five points. Leisure produced two kills, a solo block and teamed with Clarke on a block to spark the Stars. Nell's kill gave OCU a 22-21 edge, but Biola answered with the next three points.
In the third set, Nell smacked a kill that put the Stars ahead 4-2. Biola answered with a 4-0 run en route to the win.
Oklahoma City meets Baker (Kan.) at 11 a.m. Friday in the Baker Invitational in Baldwin City, Kan.
