Bohannan from OCU earns Great Falls crown

10 Stars place in Great Falls Battle of the Rockies Open

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Parker Bohannan of Oklahoma City University took the Great Falls Battle of the Rockies Open crown on Saturday at the Great Falls Charles M. Russell High School (Mont.).
The tournament title was the first in Bohannan's collegiate career. Ten individuals placed Saturday for OCU, ranked fourth in NAIA wrestling.
Bohannan, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., won by a fall over Andrew Rettke, of McKendree (Ill.), and captured the 133-pound title. Bohannan has a share of third place in the NAIA rankings.
Top ranked Ricky McCarty, a junior from Lawton, Okla., captured the 165-pound championships with a 6-1 decision over Ricards Avakovs, of Minot State (N.D.).
Zach Skates, ranked No.1, finished third place in the 157-pound division.  Skates, a senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., edged ninth ranked Jr Lule, of Concordia (Neb.), in a 7-2 decision at 157.
Alvie Killingsworth, a senior from Vian, Okla., beat Mhar Caballa, of MSU-Northern (Mont.), with a major decision 15-6 to collect third place in the 125-pound class. Killingsworth lost to the eventual champion Luke Schlosser, of Great Falls (Mont.), in the semifinals.
OCU's James Landoll, Jamie Shawver, Cody Sivertsen, Derek Sivertsen, and Bryson McGowan placed fifth in their respected weight classes.
Landoll, a junior from Marysville, Kan., lost to the eventual 141-pound champion Darren Wynn, of McKendree, by major decision 16-2 in the semifinals. Landoll is ranked 16th in the NAIA among 141-pounders.
Shawver, a senior from Del City, Okla., lost a 4-2 decision to Reid Watkins, of Simon Fraiser (Canada), in the quarterfinals but beat Watkins in the fifth-place 174-pound match with a 3-1 decision. Shawver sits in seventh in the NAIA rankings.
At 197, 16th-ranked Cody Sivertsen, a senior from Moore, Okla., defeated fellow Star Miguel Tovar in a 5-2 decision. Tovar, a junior from El Paso, Texas, finished in sixth-place.
Derek Sivertsen, a junior from Moore, Okla., won by fall over Andrew Kruwulski, of McKendree, in the 184-pound division. Sivertsen ranks fourth in the NAIA among 184-pounders.
At 285, McGowan, a freshman from Hulbert, Okla., forced a fall over Octavio Alejandre, of Great Falls.
The Stars are back in action in the Newman Jet Invitational at 8 a.m. Dec. 13 in Wichita, Kan.
