Stars take 79-57 setback at Our Lady of the Lake

OCU gets first loss since Nov. 27

SAN ANTONIO – Oklahoma City University saw its winning string halted by Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) 79-57 on Wednesday at the Mabee Gymnasium.
Terence Bonhomme, a sophomore from St. Martinville, La., delivered 19 points, four rebounds, two assists and five steals for the Stars. Oklahoma City (5-2) ended its winning streak in men's basketball at four.
Jordan Mason, a junior from Ennis, Texas, posted 12 points while hitting all eight of his free-throw attempts, and Dorion Gigger, a junior from Oklahoma City, added 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals for OCU.
Our Lady of the Lake limited the Stars to a season low in points. OCU won the first matchup against Our Lady of the Lake 92-79 on Nov. 24 in Oklahoma City.
"Give them all the credit, they were ready to compete and play," OCU coach Vinay Patel said. "Their team came up with more loose balls and effort plays, and that's something we need to get better at in order to win a game like that on the road."
Our Lady of the Lake tallied the game's first nine points. Gigger hit a free throw for the Stars' first point of the game with 4:34 off the game clock. Jamil Donovan hit OCU's first bucket on a jumper at the 15:13 mark.
OCU rallied to grab a 27-26 edge on Gigger's free throws with 2:36 left in the first period. Bonhomme triggered the Stars' 9-0 run with two free throws, a jumper and a trey.
In the second half, Our Lady of the Lake pushed its lead into double figures using an 8-0 run. Joe Johnson sank free throws to cap the run. Our Lady of the Lake led 52-39 with 12:09 left.
"It's a quick turnaround before we head back out on the road again," Patel said. "We will take a look at it and try and make some improvements in certain areas before we play again."
The Stars take on West Texas A&M at 4 p.m. Saturday in Canyon, Texas.
