Stars eliminate Mid-America from SAC Tournament

OCU faces Texas Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Wednesday in semifinals

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University ousted Mid-America Christian 25-13, 28-26, 25-22 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena in the Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball tournament.
Tori Leisure, a senior from Haslet, Texas, sparked OCU with 12 kills and two blocks. The Stars (20-7) advanced to a tournament semifinal 7 p.m. Wednesday against Texas Wesleyan at Abe Lemons Arena.
Oklahoma City reached 20 wins for the second consecutive year and sixth time in the program's 10-year history.
Manon Soraru, a sophomore from Mulhouse, France, reeled in 11 kills, six digs and two blocks, and Heather Watson, a senior from Edmond, Okla., provided OCU with 31 assists and nine digs.
The Stars' Fia Faa'agi, a freshman from Murrieta, Calif., recorded 10 kills and eight digs, while Dani Chase, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., contributed 11 digs, four assists and two aces.
Oklahoma City scored the match's first four points. Jami-Rae Renwick nailed a kill to give the Stars a 10-4 lead on the way to winning the first set.
In the second set, OCU erased a 12-8 deficit as Holly Randall's block put the Stars on top 21-19. OCU got to set point four times before putting away the frame. Faa'agi hammered a kill to create a 27-26 Stars edge, then Randall and Soraru combined on a block that clinched the set.
The Stars climbed out of a 16-11 third-set hole. Kenzie McMullen's ace tied the set 19-19. Leisure tied the set 20-20 on a kill, then Randall socked back-to-back kills. Soraru hit a kill for a 23-22 edge as OCU finished the match with three consecutive points.
