OCU rolls past Texas Wesleyan

Stars return to SAC volleyball tournament title match for first time since 2010

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pounded Texas Wesleyan 25-10, 25-22, 25-15 on Wednesday at Abe Lemons Arena in the Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball tournament semifinals.
OCU (21-7) advanced into the championship match at Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 11 a.m. Saturday in Plainview, Texas. Manon Soraru, a sophomore from Mulhouse, France, spurred the Stars with 16 kills and two blocks.
Jami-Rae Renwick, a senior from Emerald Park, Saskatchewan, Canada, hammered 10 kills, and Heather Watson, a senior from Edmond, Okla., amassed 41 assists and eight digs for OCU.
The Stars' Tori Leisure, a senior from Haslet, Texas, produced nine kills and five blocks, while Dani Chase, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., posted 22 digs. Fia Faa'agi, a freshman from Murrieta, Calif., reeled in six kills, five digs and three blocks, and Lindsey Grace, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., added five kills and eight digs for Oklahoma City. Kenzie McMullen, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., chipped in eight digs.  
OCU blistered Texas Wesleyan with nine consecutive points to build a 9-2 first-set advantage. Leisure had two kills and teamed on a block with Watson during that run. The Stars added a 7-0 surge that created a 19-6 lead. Soraru contributed two kills and a block towards that splurge.
In the second set, the Stars broke a 6-6 tie with five points in a row. Soraru nailed back-to-back kills to spark OCU. Texas Wesleyan rallied to cut its deficit to 24-22 as Starnisha Bodie and Shelby Stinnett combined on a block. Renwick clinched the set with a kill.
In the third set, OCU widened its lead to 19-10 with a 4-0 run. Faa'agi smacked a kill to cap the run.
