OCU nabs three-set win from St. Gregory's

Leisure leads Stars with 12 kills

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University took a 25-8, 29-27, 25-22 win over St. Gregory's on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Tori Leisure, a senior from Halset, Texas, spearheaded the Stars with 12 kills and four blocks. Oklahoma City moved to 18-7, 13-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Hannah Mitcham, a senior from Fort Worth, Texas, notched 18 assists and five digs to become the second Star to reach 2,500 career assists. Erin Hirt holds OCU's career assist record with 3,035. Heather Watson, a senior from Edmond, Okla., dished 16 assists for the Stars.
Manon Soraru, a sophomore from Mulhouse, France, provided OCU with eight kills and six digs, while Faith Gerkin, a senior from Douglass, Kan., picked up 10 digs. Caitlin Chamness, a sophomore from Littleton, Colo., pocketed three aces.
The Stars stormed to a 22-5 first-set advantage on the strength of a 15-2 run. Fia Faa'agi contributed two kills and an ace to that surge. Holly Randall put OCU up 22-5 by nailing a kill.
OCU survived St. Gregory's having set point three times in the second set. Randall hammered a kill to put the Stars ahead 2-0 in sets.
The Stars overcame a 9-5 deficit in the third set to clinch the match. Watson dumped off a kill to supply OCU match point at 24-19, but St. Gregory's answered with three consecutive points. Soraru socked a kill to finish the contest.
OCU finishes the regular season 7 p.m. Wednesday against Bacone in Muskogee, Okla.
