Stars come off first win of 2015-16

THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University makes its 2015-16 home debut against Langston in the second of a home-and-home series.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students, while OCU students, faculty and staff are allowed into all regular-season OCU athletics events for free with their ID. If the Stars score 70 points, fans will get a prize from Raising Cane's. For the OCU athletics visitors guide, click here.
 
ABOUT THE STARS: The Stars handed Bo Overton his first win as OCU coach in an 87-85 victory over Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) on Sunday in Shreveport, La. Oklahoma City's Catherine Kruschke sank free throws with one second left to provide the winning margin.
Daniela Wallen, a 5-foot-11 junior from Caracas, Venezuela, produced 29 points, 13 rebounds and two assists for OCU. Wallen posted 22.5 points, 3.0 assists and 2.00 steals per contest in the LSU-Shreveport Classic.
Kruschke, a 6-foot senior from Dublin, Calif., finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds and two assists. Kruschke, the Sooner Athletic Conference player of the week, recorded her second double-double in a row. Kruschke has collected 19.7 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Allison Frey, a 5-9 sophomore from Mustang, Okla., had 13 points, four rebounds and three 3-pointers. Frey averages 12.3 points and 4.7 rebounds a game.
OCU ranks eighth with 29.7 defensive rebounds a game, while Frey sits 10th nationally with 3.33 treys per game. To see how OCU matches up with the NAIA Division I statistical leaders this season, click here.
The Stars were seventh in the preseason NAIA Division I rankings. OCU continued streaks of being ranked in the top 10 in every poll since March 11, 2009 and making the top 25 for the 192nd consecutive time since 1999-2000. Oklahoma City owns national championships from 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014 and 2015.
Langston dealt OCU an 85-48 defeat Nov. 7 in Langston, Okla. OCU leads the overall series against Langston 28-3.

ABOUT THE LADY LIONS: Langston rolled past St. Gregory's 100-48 on Nov. 10 in Langston, Okla. Langston (2-0) held St. Gregory's to 25 percent shooting from the field.
Alexus Johnson, a 6-2 junior, paced Langston with 27 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Johnson has supplied her team with 30.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.50 steals per game. Che'Ron Lewis, a 6-1 junior, had 24 points and five rebounds while shooting 10-for-10 from the free-throw line. Lewis has averaged 22.0 points on 66.7 percent shooting from the floor.
No. 18-ranked Langston ranks second in the NAIA in field-goal percentage defense (25.6 percent), free-throw percentage (85.5 percent) and turnover margin (plus-11). The Red River Athletic Conference preseason poll had Langston finishing second in the league.

ABOUT THE COACHES: Bo Overton is in his debut season with OCU. Overton has a wide array of coaching experience, establishing a reputation as a top talent evaluator and recruiter. He has head-coaching experience on the professional level in China, Russia and the WNBA, as well as college head-coaching experience with Missouri-Kansas City. Overton has been an assistant on the international level for the Bahamas and China, including the 2012 Olympics with the Chinese team. Overton is well known among Oklahomans for his stint as an assistant to Sherri Coale at Oklahoma from 1998-2004 as well as playing college basketball at Oklahoma.
Cheryl Miller directed Langston a 28-4 record, the RRAC Tournament title and a trip to the 2015 NAIA Division I Tournament in her first season as head coach for Langston. From 1993-95, Miller was the head coach of the University of Southern California women's team, going 42-14 with two NCAA Tournament berths.  From 1997-2000, she was the head coach of the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, leading the team to a 70-52 record and the 1998 WNBA Finals. Miller was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995, FIBA Hall of Fame for international play in 2010 and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. Miller also boasts gold medals from the 1983 Pan American Games, 1984 Olympics and 1986 Goodwill Games.
