OCU stampedes St. Gregory's

Stars improve to 7-0 in conference action

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University overwhelmed St. Gregory's 25-9, 25-8, 25-20 on Tuesday at W.P. Wood Field House.
Heather Watson, a senior from Edmond, Okla., accumulated 36 assists, three digs and two aces for the Stars. OCU, ranked 23rd in NAIA volleyball, moved to 12-5, 7-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Tori Leisure, a senior from Haslet, Texas, pounded 10 kills, and Stefani Nell, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., posted 10 kills and seven digs for Oklahoma City. Fia Faa'agi, a freshman from Murrieta, Calif., provided the Stars with eight kills and three digs, while Dani Chase, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., picked up 14 digs and two aces.
Chase had an ace that sparked a 9-0 OCU run during the first set to widen her team's lead to 14-3. Faa'agi capped the splurge with three consecutive kills.
The Stars put together eight unanswered points to build a 14-4 second-set advantage. Faa'agi piled up four more kills during OCU's surge.
St. Gregory's had four points in a row to extend the third set after Leisure nailed a kill to give OCU a 24-16 lead. Caitlin Chamness knocked down the match-clinching kill.  
The Stars compete against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
