Stars cruise past Southwestern Assemblies

OCU stays undefeated in conference play

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University knocked off Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 25-15, 25-16, 25-21 on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Fia Faa'agi, a freshman from Murrieta, Calif., produced 12 kills and seven digs for the Stars. Oklahoma City, ranked 23rd in NAIA volleyball, moved to 13-5, 8-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Manon Soraru, a sophomore from Mulhouse, France, added 10 kills and four digs, while Heather Watson, a senior from Edmond, Okla., accumulated 35 assists, six digs and four aces for OCU.
Shekinah Clarke, a freshman from Waianae, Hawaii, contributed 12 digs and two kills, and Dani Chase, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., picked up 11 digs for the Stars.
Tori Leisure smacked three kills as OCU built an 8-1 first-set advantage. Soraru had a kill to widen the Stars' lead to 13-2.
In the second set, OCU went on a 9-0 run to erase a 2-0 deficit. Leisure, a senior from Haslet, Texas, nailed two more kills, and Watson served up two aces during the Stars' surge.
Oklahoma City took control of the third set with six unanswered points to go up 21-14. Soraru hammered two kills during that span. Faa'agi added two kills to get OCU to match point.
The Stars take on John Brown (Ark.) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
