OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University remained unbeaten in Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 25-12, 25-19, 25-20 victory over Southwestern Christian on Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Stefani Nell, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., provided OCU with 13 kills, three digs and two blocks. The Stars, ranked 24th in NAIA volleyball, went to 16-5, 11-0 in the SAC.
Tori Leisure, a senior from Haslet, Texas, contributed 11 kills and two blocks, while Manon Soraru, a sophomore from Mulhouse, France, added 11 kills, four digs and two blocks for OCU.
Heather Watson, a senior from Edmond, Okla., accumulated 38 assists, four digs, two blocks and two aces, and Shekinah Clarke, a freshman from Waianae, Hawaii, recorded 16 digs and five kills for the Stars. Dani Chase scooped nine digs.
In the first set, OCU rolled to 13 consecutive points to leave behind a 10-6 deficit. Clarke ignited the OCU flurry with three consecutive kills to start the run. Clarke had four kills and an ace in all during the surge. Nell smacked a kill to put the Stars up 19-10. Watson's ace sewed up the set.
The Stars' 5-0 run keyed their second-set win. Leisure hammered three kills as OCU erased an 8-7 hole.
Oklahoma City closed out the victory with eight points in a row. Leisure chipped in two kills and a block to the clinching run, while Soraru pitched in a kill and an ace.
The Stars face Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 11 a.m. Saturday in Plainview, Texas.
