Stars thrash Texas Wesleyan 98-83

OCU extends winning streak to four

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University put down Texas Wesleyan 98-83 Saturday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Gary Inglett, a senior from Ardmore, Okla., was a rebound shy of a double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds. The Stars improved to 10-6, 6-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball.
"He's still working and trying," OCU coach Dionne Phelps said of Inglett. "The things we need him to do are take control of that backboard and do the best he can with that. It was another good night for him, and like we say, he has to do it every night."
Lou Dunbar, a freshman from Seabrook Texas, contributed 17 points, hitting on 3-of-4 shots from beyond the arc, in 17 minutes of play for the Stars. Dunbar made his home debut for OCU and redshirted last season at Canisius.
Stars' Evan White, a junior from San Antonio, scored 14 points and four assists, while Ivan Jelencic, a senior from Sibenik, Croatia, chipped in 13 points and three rebounds. Jamil Donovan, a senior from Oklahoma City was an assists and a point shy of a double-double with nine points and nine assists on the night.
Texas Wesleyan hit on 8 of their first 9 shots from the floor, but only led by two six minutes into the game.
"It was one of those games when we needed to keep our concentration and composure," Phelps said. "They started out hot and I didn't think we did a great job of guarding the ball. At the end of the day we need to learn how to defend."
The Stars took a 10-point lead, 54-44, into the locker room while shooting 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from deep, a season high for a half, and 62.5 percent (20-of-32) from the field. Dunbar had 12 points on three straight 3-pointers in four minutes at halftime.
OCU opened a 17-2 run with 1:42 remaining to lead 98-77, the largest lead of the game.
The Stars assisted on 27 of their 38 buckets in the game.
