OCU outlasts John Brown 85-71

Stars win second straight on road

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University extended its winning streak to three with a 85-71 win over John Brown (Ark.) on Thursday night at Bill George Arena.
The Stars had four players score in double figures. OCU improved to 9-6, 5-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball after two straight road victories.
"Any time you can come up here and be fortunate enough to get a win, it's a great victory," OCU coach Dionne Phelps said. "This is a really hard place to play, and they have shooters everywhere. I'm pretty excited, and our guys should be very excited to come up here and get a win."
Gary Inglett, a senior from Ardmore, Okla., led the Stars with 21 points and eight rebounds. Tharone Chilton, a senior from Tulsa, Okla., added 21 points, five steals and three assists.
Dorion Gigger, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, contributed 11 points, two rebounds and two assists, while R.J. McGhee, a senior from Baton Rouge, La., scored 10 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals.
"We have to have a balanced attack, and we have to have everyone contribute," Phelps said. "Tonight it was in our favor that we were able to do that."
The Stars sank free throws in the final minute to keep the game out of reach of JBU.
OCU forced John Brown into 18 turnovers and scored 20 points off them. The Stars also owned a 43-32 points in the paint advantage and dominated bench points 27-8 over JBU.
Oklahoma City hosts Texas Wesleyan 5 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
