OCU vs. Southwestern Assemblies of God women's basketball preview

Stars have spent past four polls ranked second in NAIA Division I

THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University looks to extend an 11-game winning streak against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas).

ABOUT THE STARS: Oklahoma City topped Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars (11-1, 6-0 Sooner Athletic Conference) had six players score in double digits against eighth-ranked Oklahoma Baptist.
Kara Partridge, a 5-foot-7 freshman from Midwest City, Okla., led the Stars in scoring with 15 points and pulled down a season-best seven rebounds off the bench. Partridge averages 5.9 points and 2.8 boards a game.
Marisha Wallace, a 6-2 senior from Midwest City, Okla., added 14 points and eight rebounds, also off the pine for the Stars. Wallace scores 13.6 points and grabs 6.6 rebounds a game. Rateska Brown, a 5-6 senior from Alvin, S.C., contributed 13 points while shooting 8-for-10 from the free-throw line. Brown leads the team in scoring with 19.4 points and 3.4 3-pointers per game.

Oklahoma City remained at No. 2 in the newest NAIA Division I rankings. OCU has been ranked in the top 10 in every poll since March 11, 2009 and made the top 25 in all 182 polls since 1999-2000. OCU owns national championships from 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014. SAC coaches predicted the Stars would win the league title. OCU has won or shared the SAC regular-season crown 15 times, including the last five in a row.
OCU owns a 2-0 overall record against Southwestern Assemblies of God. The Stars pounded the Lady Lions 77-47 in Abe Lemons Arena on Jan. 30, 2014.
 
ABOUT THE LADY LIONS: Southwestern Assemblies of God ended a four-game losing skid in a 95-54 win over Dallas Christian on Monday in Waxahachie, Texas. The Lady Lions (10-9, 1-5) shot 54.2 percent (32-of-59) from the floor in the game.
Ebony Colbert, a 5-6 freshman, led the charge with 15 points and four assists. She made 6-of-10 shots from the field. Colbert averages 4.6 points and 0.7 assists per game. Monica Dorsey, a 5-6 sophomore, added 12 points and five rebounds. Dorsey scores 6.2 points and pulls down 2.5 rebounds a game for the Lady Lions.
SAGU was chosen to finish seventh in the SAC preseason coaches' poll.
 
ABOUT THE COACHES: Latricia Trammell was the 2014 NAIA Division I Phyllis Holmes coach of the year. Trammell has a 66-9 record in her third season as OCU head coach. She guided the Stars to a 16-0 record in conference play in 2012-13. She was OCU assistant to Rob Edmisson in 2005-07, then became Western State (Colo.) head coach from 2007-12. Trammell's college head-coaching record is 131-85 in her eighth year. Trammell has coached six all-Americans and 23 all-conference selections, including two SAC players of the year, an SAC newcomer of the year, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference player of the year and RMAC West Division freshman of the year. As an assistant at OCU, Trammell mentored the Stars' first WNBA draftee, Mariam Sy of the Washington Mystics, 10 all-conference choices, the SAC player of the year, SAC newcomer of the year and four all-Americans.
Arlon Beadles is in his 10th season as the Lady Lions' coach. Deadles led SAGU to their first NAIA Tournament appearance in school history in 2010.
